“Female? Male? New views, new perspectives!”
On Wednesday 6th March, the Gender4STEM team had the pleasure to participate in the “Living Library” evening organised by the City of Esch-sur-Alzette for the International Women’s Day. During this evening, entitled “Female? Male? New views, new perspectives!”, the participants discussed with guests, about the ‘clichés’ (positive or negative) on the roles of women and men in our society, and the stereotypes that categorize women and men or other groups of people. The guests were women and men, who have an ‘atypical’ job or activity, or whose societal commitment, questions reductive representations about women and men or other groups of people. Small groups discussed in a cordial spirit end informally, in Luxembourgish or in French.
On this occasion, Marina Andrieu (Women in Digital Luxembourg) and Marie Gallais (Project Manager Gender4STEM, Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology) animated exchanges on gender stereotypes in education and especially in Sciences Technologies Engineering and Mathematics identified in Gender4STEM.
They also presented the Gender4STEM Teaching Assistant (GTA) platform developed as part of the project. The GTA is a platform dedicated to secondary education teachers, raising their awareness on (conscious and unconscious) behavioral gender biases, but above all, providing teachers with concrete tools and methods for more gender fair practices.
